New GDC Guidance



The GDC published new Guidance on Reporting Matters a little over a month ago now, and will take effect from 01 February 2025. The Guidance has intended to clarify under what circumstances you should report, but have also reminded you of your obligations to practise Dentistry to the standard expected by the GDC.


In accordance with their overarching duty of: protecting, promoting, and maintaining the health, safety and well-being of the public; promoting and maintaining public confidence in the regulated professions; and promoting and maintaining proper professional standards and conduct for members of those professions, they require all registrants to report in the following circumstances:


  • If your health may impact your ability to practcse safely

  • If you, or your patient, may be concerned about your conduct and performance

  • If proceedings have been brought against you by another regulatory body

  • If criminal proceedings have been brought against you

  • If you have any past convictions and/or cautions.


The Guidance highlights the importance of all registrants upholding their Duty of Candour and taking accountability.


Significantly, you must also raise concerns you have about the health, conduct or performance of a colleague.
