Everything you need to know about the upcoming changes to National Minimum Wage

From 01 April 2026, National Minimum Wage and National Living Wage will increase. As an employer, it is important that you are aware of your obligations under the new rules. 


Every year, the Low Pay Commission make recommendations to the Government as to what the National Minimum and Living Wage should increase to. They take into consideration factors such as the current cost of living, forecast inflation rates and the impact the increased hourly rates will have on businesses, competitiveness, the labour market and the wider economy.


Steps are being taken to narrow the gap between the minimum rates for 18-20 year olds, and those aged 21 and over; the future aim is for there to be one single adult rate. 


As of 01 April 2026, the following hourly rates will be applicable:
